Frequently Asked Questions

1. What types of resources are included in the library?

Reports, tools, curricula, research articles, presentations, literature reviews, and Web sites related to mental health promotion and youth violence prevention in schools and communities are among the resources you will find in the library.

2. How are resources chosen for the library?

Materials are identified by Center staff via list servs and literature reviews. All materials included in the library have been reviewed and selected by Center staff to ensure that are related to the work of Safe Schools/Healthy Students grantees, are easily accessible, and reflect the most current knowledge and research in the field.

3. How do I search the library?

There are three ways to use the library:

a) Search by Category: Select a category from the left toolbar to find all articles on this topic. When you click on a category related subcategories will appear.

b) Use the “Search” feature: Enter any keywords (e.g., title, author, description) into the search box in the upper left hand corner and this feature will find resources that match your search.

c) Use the “Advanced Search” feature: This allows you to search on more specific criteria and expand or narrow your search.

4. How do I obtain copies of the items in the library?

Most of the items included in the library include links to full text documents. Many of the publications on this Web site are available as PDF files. To view them you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. The reader can be obtained at no cost from www.adobe.com.

5. How can I find resources covering more than one category?

Resources are listed in all relevant categories and subcategories and appear in multiple categories if appropriate.

6. What should I do if I have trouble using the library?

7. I cannot find the resources I am looking for in this library. Where else can I go for information?

The National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention’s PromotePrevent.org Web site has a host of resources. Click on the Resources Link to access our Resource Pages, as well as other Center publications. If you still can not find what you are looking for, contact your technical assistance specialist for further guidance.

8. Are all the resources available in full text? Will I need a subscription to access any material in this library?

This library primarily includes resources that are available in full text. However, we also include resources that are available for purchase if they are seminal in the field. When resources are not available in the public domain, we have included instructions on how to access those resources.

9. What publication years are included in this library?

We strive to include only resources that reflect the most current knowledge and research in the field; however, we also include resources of great impact to the field, regardless of when they were published.

10. How is this library organized?

This library is organized by categories relevant to the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative. They are further divided into subcategories for increased specificity.
